Nicki Minaj’s critique of the MTV VMAs and the racism in the music industry got hijacked by Taylor Swift when the young pop star accused Minaj of “pitting women against each other.” But after mistakenly inserting herself into Minaj’s battle, Swift got a taste of her own medicine recently when Katy Perry bashed her for hating on other women — namely Perry.

Pop fans will likely remember that Swift’s latest Billboard Hot 100 hit, “Bad Blood,” was inspired by her broken friendship with Perry, whom she accused in an article in Rolling Stone of trying to sabotage her career.

“For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not. She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?” Swift said. “[Then last year] she did something so horrible. I was like, ‘Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies.’ And it wasn’t even about a guy!” Swift said.

“She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational — you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it,” Swift said.

Well, for someone who doesn’t like conflict, she sure went out of her way to start up a conflict with Minaj. But her move backfired yesterday when Perry accused Swift of misusing her so-called feminist stance to bash other women.

Perry then went on to point out how another Black female artist, Rihanna, had been snubbed by the VMAs despite her “B—– Better Have My Money” video being one of the most critically acclaimed and successful videos of the year.

We have to agree with Perry that Swift should’ve left this issue alone. Better yet, she should’ve actually listened to what Minaj was saying instead of inserting herself into Minaj’s battle, diminishing her struggles as a Black woman, and then assuming the role of the victim in an argument against racism as a whole, not one celebrity.
