Game Reveals Source of Beef With Jay-Z

Game enjoys taking lyrical shots at veteran emcee Jay-Z, having most recently dissed Hov on the track “Uncle Otis.” And while the West Coast rapper has claimed in the past that his war ofwords with the Roc Nation chief is nothing serious, he now reveals that a rocky initial meeting with Jay-Z caused a “short-lived hatred” for the emcee.

During a recent video interview with Jam’n 94.5, Game discussed his feud with Jay-Z, initially dismissing it as nothing more than “friendly competition.”

“It’s just a competition. So whenever I throw shots at or take a shot in the dark these days at someone like the likes of Hova, people should look at it like it’s a friendly competition,” said Game. “I feel like Jay is one of the better rappers, if not the top two, between him and Eminem, right now.”

However, later in the video, Game explains that when he first met Jay-Z, he was less than thrilled with the rapper that he once praised, causing Game to despise Jay-Z for a brief amount of time.

“I think that’s where my short-lived hatred came from. Yeah, man. I had it like that he was just a great dude. I grew up off of all Jay’s albums, and when I finally met him and he was just, I don’t know, he was overly cocky,” he said. “The way that he played fans — and I’m not saying it to say he’s the same person now, that was like seven years ago — this is my own personal experience, so it’s not to make anyone hate Jay-Z.”

Despite his continual jabs at Jay-Z, Game assured that he no longer hates the Blueprint emcee.

“It turned me left. Ever since then, I’ve been taking little potshots here and there, it’s nothing personal,” explained Game.

Apparently, first impressions really do make a difference, at least for Game. Perhaps a new meeting between the two can finally put an end to their (one-sided) beef. –nicholas robinson
