The world stood at attention on Aug. 28 at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards when pop superstar Beyoncé announced that she and Jay-Z are expecting their first child. And as friends and fans across the globe shared their well-wishes for the proud parents to be, two of the people closest to the couple, Kelly Rowland and J. Cole, recently commented on the baby news, sharing their pride and optimism for the future parents.
In an interview with People, Rowland spoke about her former Destiny’s Child bandmate’s pregnancy, and although the Here I Am singer was mum about the couple’s picks for baby names, she shared that she believes Beyoncé will be a great mother.
“I have known for quite a while, and she’s happy, and Jay is happy, and that’s all that counts,” said Rowland. “I think she’ll be an incredible mother, because she’s always been motherly. I think that she takes after so many traits from her mother. And I just think it’s going to be so natural for her. It’s natural for her now!”
Jay’s Roc Nation frontrunner, J. Cole, also shared his excitement over the baby news, explaining to Necole Bitchie why Jay and Beyoncé’s pregnancy is so important to the younger generations of music fans.
“I was like “Beyoncé’s pregnant?!” Then they showed a photo of her on the carpet with her hands on her stomach showing her baby bump,” he said. “It was just instant smiles but I was just telling somebody it feel like the whole world was having a baby right now. That’s how ‘ill’ it was.”
“Not only are they huge celebrities I feel like they did it right. They carried themselves in the public light right, they represent black people correctly. So it’s like the only thing we’ve seen like that is Will and Jada but they’re a little more relevant to us, like immediately more relevant to our generation at least my generation so that’s why it feels so important,” he said. –nicholas robinson
