Nick Cannon Dispels Rumors of Mariah Carey Drinking During Hospital Stay

For years, pop megastar and new mother Mariah Carey has been faced with rumors of alcoholism, but husband Nick Cannon called foul last week after it was alleged that Carey was caught drinking alcohol in her hospital room with her newborn twins, Monroe and Moroccan Scott, nearby.

In a CNN interview with Piers Morgan on Thursday, May 12, Cannon explained that the rumor was ludicrous.

“Recently, the child protective services were called with allegations that there was some drinking and drugs and all that going on … wild in the hospital, which makes no sense to me. How would a hospital allow that?” said Cannon.

As the doting husband explains, he believes the trouble began because someone in the hospital overheard a staff member discussing a beer that allegedly boosts breast milk production, which is a typical concern when it comes to mothers of twins.

“It all started when a nurse suggested to my wife that if you drink Guinness, the dark beer, the yeast improves breastfeeding,” Cannon added. “I don’t know if someone heard that … saying my wife was drinking beer. People will do anything to try to conjure up a story.”

Cannon then explained that the investigator from child protective services sided with the comedian, believing the story to be false.

“Then, when I spoke to the person from child protection services, [they said], ‘This is ridiculous. We’re going to make sure this isn’t the case.’ To even have to deal with that, with my wife in the state that she’s in while we’re in the hospital, to even have to think about someone possibly wanting to investigate your children,” Cannon said. “It’s sad at the end of the day … when you think about people trying to make a buck off newborn babies.”
