Paltrow Tweets Kanye West and Jay-Z Song Title

When a popular song contains the N-word, is it really expected that non-black listeners omit the term for fear of being called racist? For some people the answer is a formidable yes. If you’re an Oscar-winning actress and the best friend of Beyoncé, however, you obviously think otherwise.

Gwyneth Paltrow caused a stir on Twitter late Friday when she posted a picture from Jay-Z and Kanye West’s ‘Watch The Throne’ concert in Paris. In it, Paltrow was seen onstage alongside singer The Dream with the caption, N**gas In Paris For Real. @mrteriusnash (the dream), tyty, beehigh.”

While a number people shrugged off her use of the word, some of Paltrow’s Twitter followers blasted her with criticism. “Just out of curiosity…does @gwynethpaltrow have a hood pass or something?,” wrote blogger Miss Jia. “Just asking. No judgment. Signed, a N—- not in Paris.”

Before Paltrow was blasted for her “offensive” use of the title, actor Alec Baldwin was criticized for doing the same thing when he tweeted late last year, “I love that song N—– IN PARIS!!! I love Kanye!! I love @IrelandBBaldwin most of all!!!” After he too received criticism he fired back on the social network saying, “Anyone who thinks that quoting the title of that song is racist is a disgrace.”

Are people right to be upset when non-blacks use the N-word in a song title or are people being way too sensitive? Well, if the song was titled something else entirely, a silly debate like this could be avoided.
