TMZ blames hip-hop for Boston Marathon bombings

While CNN and Glenn Beck were more upfront with their racial profiling, TMZ found a new way to blame “dark-skinned” people for the Boston Marathon bombings.

In a recent post, TMZ used the headline: “Dead Bombing Suspect Heavy into Hip Hop.” The website refers to the deceased bombing suspect’s, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, interest in hip-hop. Investigators discovered that he was a member of the hip-hop website “Real-hiphop.com.”

TMZ goes on to say, “What’s interesting … hip hop lyrics are notoriously violent and often degrading to women.”

It’s probably one of the laziest attempts at journalism during a catastrophic event. For TMZ to attempt to link hip-hop to an act of terrorism shows a lack of insight and is still a form of racial profiling, considering most rappers are black.

Hip-hop has its issues, but it’s a not a music or culture that breeds terrorism. It’s unfortunate that TMZ associated the popular music genre with a terrorist.
