Baltimore State Attorney Marilyn Mosby’s decision to stop the release of Freddie Gray’s autopsy report has drawn even more ire from the Baltimore Police Department.
According to the Baltimore Sun, Mosby filed a motion earlier this week to prevent the report from being released while she oversees the prosecution of the six officers charged with causing Gray’s death.
Mosby says she doesn’t want the autopsy or other sensitive documents released because she has “a duty to ensure a fair and impartial process for all parties involved” and “will not be baited into litigating this case through the media.”
Though her intentions in blocking the release of the autopsy report seem earnest enough, there are some, such as attorney Ivan Bates, who represents Sgt. Alicia White, who say Mosby is attempting to hide something and is hell bent on making sure his client “does not get a fair trial.”
“Mrs. Mosby is the one who did an announcement discussing what she said the evidence was in a nationally televised speech,” Bates said. “Now that it is time to turn over the evidence, to ask for a protective order is beyond disingenuous.”
Attorney Mosby has requested a gag order be issued to prevent all parties involved with the case from speaking about it publically.
