Nets fire Coach Johnson

In a surprising turn of events, the Brooklyn Nets have relieved their head coach of his duties. An official press release from the team confirms that Avery Johnson has been let go as announced  by General Manager Billy King. “The Nets ownership would like to express thanks to Avery for his efforts and to wish him every success in the future,” said Brooklyn Nets principal owner Mikhail Prokhorov.

Johnson was named head coach of the Nets on June 15, 2010. In two-plus seasons as head coach he’s compiled a record of 60-116. He was recently named the Eastern Conference ‘Coach of the Month’ for October and November. A search for a new head coach is said to be underway.

Johnson is the second coach to be relieved of his duties in recent months. In November the Los Angeles Lakers fired Coach Mike Brown. -danielle canada
