There are widespread reports that Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant is planning to sign with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports management company. Durant is leaving Landmark Sports and according to SportsBusiness Journal‘s Liz Mullen, Roc Nation is his likely landing target. Mullen tweeted a brief comment from Landmark Sports president, NBA agent Rob Pelinka.
“We are honored and blessed to have worked on behalf of Kevin for a brief period of time.” Pelinka tweeted.
Roc Nation has yet to comment on any deal with the NBA scoring champ and perennial All-Star.
In an effort to increase his public image, many industry experts believe that Durant would benefit from partnering with a brand headed by a pop culture icon. With the star forward playing a small market city, inking a deal with Roc Nation would only amplify his presence. “KD doesn’t want a traditional NBA agent anymore,” a league source told Yahoo! Sports. “He wants Jay-Z to handle his branding. …He had a chance to be with his idol and couldn’t say no.”
Conversely, signing a star of Durant’s magnitude would only raise the profile of Roc Nation Sports and help Jay-Z shake up the sports agency status quo a bit more.
