ESPN Bans Hank Williams' 'MNF' Theme Song for Obama, Hiltler Comparison; Apology Issued

Hank Williams Jr. served as the voice of “Monday Night Football” with his infectious theme song for over 20 years. However, football fans may never hear that theme song again after ESPN decided to ban Williams’s song because of his political rant against President Obama.

During an interview with “Fox and Friends” on Fox News, Williams was asked to provide his thoughts on the golf match between President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner. Williams compared President Obama to Hitler.

“That’s like Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu. They’re the enemy. Obama, Biden. The three stooges,” Williams said.

ESPN reacted swiftly to Williams’s statement and pulled the song before the Oct. 3 game featuring the Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Bucs. Reps at the station released a statement saying, “While Hank Williams, Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to Monday Night Football. We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight’s telecast.”

Williams has since canceled his Fox News Channel interview set to take place on Tuesday and said he was sorry for any offense given by his recent statement comparing President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler.
