Lil Wayne: 'I Just Figure People Want to Be Funky Like Me'

Lil Wayne has masterfully branded himself as both a pop culture icon and one of hip-hop’s greatest and most unconventional emcees. Now the Young Money CEO has revealed that he wants to brand himself as a fashion designer, announcing the upcoming launch of his own fashion line called Rebirth.

Sharing the news in the July/August issue of XXL, Weezy explains that his own personal style is what inspired him to create a clothing line for the masses.

“I just figure that I … I’m funky,” he said. “I got that from my stylist, Marisa. I’m funky, like she says. I wear a whole buncha items at one time, you know what I mean? I figure you at least want one of them items. Like, ‘ I’d love to have that safety pin he got on,’ you know what I mean? I want — I just figure people want to be funky like me, so I got my clothing line.”

Only time will tell if Weezy can successfully follow in the footsteps of fellow hip-hop designers Sean Diddy Combs, the creator of Sean John, and Russell Simmons, former CEO of Phat Farm.

Until then, Wayne is diligently watching his hip-hop throne as he promotes his current mixtape Sorry 4 The Wait and gears up for the release of his upcoming studio album, Tha Carter IV.
