The Breakfast Klub celebrated its 11th Anniversary as one of Houston’s leading African American owned businesses with a fun filled day of events and activities for customers, as thanks for another great year in the restaurant industry. The festivities kicked off with “The second Annual Breakfast Klub Grits Eating Championship of the World.”  The much anticipated competition turned out more than a dozen contestants vying for a chance to beat last year’s winner and walk away with a trophy, 11 gift cards to the Breakfast Klub-valued at $25 per gift card and major bragging rights as the grits eating champion of the world!

Celebrity Judges Khambrel Marshall from KPRC-TV,  Meteorologist Chita Johnson from KHOU-TV,  Samica Knight from KTRK-TV,  and Sarah Rufca from CultureMap Magazine watched as each contestant received a series of pre-weighed bowls of the breakfast klub’s world famous grits. All contestants were given five minutes before the start of the contest to add their choice of sugar, salt, butter, pepper, and/or Tabasco.

After five minutes of an intense grit-eating war a winner was crowned.  Rayford Hopper of Richmond, Texas took the championship with Dan Binder, Oliver Burbridge and Garland Ellis coming in at third, fourth, and fifth place.
