What are the three most important factors of being a successful woman?

The three most important factors of being a successful woman are embracing the fact that you need balance, having intense passion for what you do and having a sense of faith/spirituality.

Who or what motivates you and why?

I’m motivated by the 135th Street Agency. The business that my partner, Shante Bacon, and I have birthed has grown from a baby to a feisty, creative and adventurous 8-year-old that’s well on its way to becoming very successful.

I’m literally in awe of what the company has accomplished. We have clients like OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, the Weinstein Company, Paramount Pictures, BET, TV One, and Myx Fusions. We’re still growing and thriving and that drives me to do more. Our challenges are also inspiring to me. We learn from our mistakes and we fight to turn our losses into victories. I’m proud of our work and I’m even more proud of the fact that 135th can serve as an example for future entrepreneurs.

What advice do you wish to offer other women who are seeking a similar career path?

I recommend to women that whatever you’re interested in, be the best at it. Spend time really learning your craft. Refrain from focusing too much on promoting yourself as an individual when you’re in the early stages of your career. Spend time becoming someone’s understudy; work at an agency that’s really going to push you to do the best and present you with key opportunities to work on relevant projects. You have to make this a lifestyle. Your career shouldn’t be a job- it’s what you live to do. That means being ahead of the curve, reading magazines regularly, knowing who the influencers are and being multi-dimensional.
