On Sept. 21, emerging artist Avery Wilson held a listening session at Atlanta’s ZAC Recording Studio. At the event, he played his guitar and sang melodies as well as premiered his new single, “Change My Mind” featuring rap trio Migos. The singer was originally on season three of the hit show, “The Voice” and soon took over Vine where he posted videos showcasing his talents.

The young artist participated in a Q-and-A session alongside his mentor Sean Garrett, who also spread knowledge about the music and entertainment industry. When speaking on his protégé, Garrett said, “I love that Avery is humble enough to admit that he doesn’t know everything, and I know he’s going to be successful, not based on me, but based on him and God.”

While only 20 years old, the singer has already had memorable experiences, including the Grammys, performing alongside Tori Kelly as an “Artist to Watch,” as well as participating in Music Matters.

“I would like to make my imprint on the world as a young, black multifaceted artist,” said Wilson about his plans for the future. “I feel that it’s what my generation needs, they need to see that it’s OK to be all the things that you’ve been blessed with.”

When introducing his new single, “Change my Mind,” Wilson explained that the song offers a snapshot of him as an artist and offers a glimpse of what he plans to do with his music. The singer describes himself as colorless, creative, and determined and he wants to continue to move in the direction of urban and pop artistry.
