What is Haute Travels Beauty?
Haute Travels Beauty is an extension of Haute Travels blog – bringing fashion, beauty, travel and philanthropy together to support worthy causes like Living Water for Girls. When a woman feels beautiful, it shows in everything that she does. It speaks to her complete being and goes beyond just being pretty. Haute Travels Beauty events are designed to celebrate and empower women from the inside out.
What can attendees expect?
Attendees can expect a complete experience: a rare, private makeup demonstration taught be celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine, who is also the new creative director for Fashion Fair Cosmetics. Our guests will fall in love with Ernest Washington’s state-of-the-art photography studio where Sam will take center stage and create beauty magic.
The class is followed by a reception where the attendees can mingle with Sam and take photos or ask him additional questions about the industry and the business of beauty. Upon departure, all of the attendees will leave with a copy of Fine: The Basics of Beauty DVD so that they can continue the experience at home or with their friends.
Why Sam Fine?
When it comes to makeup masters, there’s nobody who commands the kind of star power that Sam Fine does. He is to the beauty industry what Beyoncé is to entertainment. Vogue magazine says he’s “The go-to makeup master for women of color.” I love that Sam is always willing to share his wealth of knowledge so that the girl next door and celebrities alike can arrive with flawless faces that look natural. His commitment to educating the next generation of makeup artists is second to none. I’m thrilled that he’s helping me launch the first in a series of Haute Travels Beauty events.
Tell us about the benefiting Charity… Living Water for Girls
I’m an ambassador for Living Water for Girls, an organization that rescues young girls and teenagers from prostitution and sexual exploitation. American children are being bought and sold for sexual purposes at an alarming rate. It’s a 13 billion dollar a year industry and, sadly, little black girls who look like us are often forgotten. But thanks to Living Water for Girls, there’s a safe heaven created for 10-17 year-olds, nestled in the foot hills of Georgia, where they call home during a long-tern rehabilitation process. The girls are provided with counseling, educational support, love and understanding. It’s a comprehensive program that changes lives. Some of these girls have endured unspeakable acts, but they are resilient. If we can save one girl, then she may be able to save someone else and break the cycle.
Founder Lisa Williams is an amazing advocate for our girls. She was recently honored in Hollywood by Lifetime at Variety‘s Power of Women luncheon along with celebrity philanthropists Mary J. Blige, Eva Longoria and Lea Michele. She’s also a L’Oreal Paris 2010 Woman of Worth. She’s fearless and works at least 80 hours a week so that no girl is left behind. Those who have pledged their support include stars from the hit movie The Help, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Allison Janney along with Mary J. Blige who appears on the movie’s soundtrack.
