With
his fourth album, trumpeter Sean Jones brings vocalists into his jazzy
mix. The Warren, Ohio native stays consistent in making his sound
evolve. The album’s opener, “Allison,” starts as a light instrumental,
then introduces singer J.D. Walter singing a wordless vocal similar to
those of the Pat Metheny Group. Jones plays on an eclectic range of
cuts, reflecting Clifford Brown, Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw and Miles
Davis with his style. –forrest green III
