Former Right Fielder, Atlanta BravesMost Atlanta Braves fans can recall the remarkable 1995 season that included an unforgettable World Series championship that brought joy to the hearts of many. Only days after he scolded Atlanta fans for not being supportive and embracing the team the way he felt they should, former Braves right fielder David Justice scored the game’s deciding run. Recently, the legendary left-handed power hitter returned to Atlanta to be installed into the Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame. “Anytime I come back to Atlanta, it’s special for me. It takes me back to a time that was really special in my life, back in those days when I played for the Braves. Anywhere you go in America, when people think professional and they think classy, that’s how they think of the Braves. That’s a great feeling for me, because I’m forever associated with the Braves,” says Justice. While Justice was traded to the Cleveland Indians the season following that memorable World Series win, he, like most professional athletes, understood that the sport is also a business and sometimes changes have to be made. “When I was traded, it was like I was no longer a part of the family. I was heartbroken, but then what happens is that when you get away from it and you start to understand that Schuerholz [Braves GM] has to run the Braves – he can’t just be thinking about me; he has to do what he thinks is best for the Braves. Now, I understand and my heart is mended,” says Justice. – jason thompson |
