Breast Surgeon, William Beaumont Hospital The fight against breast cancer is a grueling battle that millions of women face every day. While the journey is difficult and too often deadly, many women don’t have to go it alone, thanks to people like Dr. Aeisha Rivers. A breast surgeon at Beaumont Hospital, Rivers helps patients fight back.
“I’m a surgeon at heart,” she reveals. “I love being in the operating room [and] I love to be able to provide definitive treatment. If you’ve got cancer, I want to be the one to take care of that for you.”
After completing a fellowship at Northwestern University, River’s dedication to breast cancer studies heightened during her mentorship under Dr. Lisa Newman at the University of Michigan.
“That year opened up so many opportunities for me to see breast cancer firsthand,” she recalls. “That was also my first opportunity to participate in some of the community activities in support of breast cancer survivors.”
Along with the staff at Beaumont, Rivers celebrates the fact that they are able to work as a team to provide the best comprehensive treatment for their patients. They capitalize on every opportunity to get involved with raising health awareness.
“I think Beaumont does a great job at promoting a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care,” she explains. “Any opportunity we have to speak [or] to teach in the community, whether it’s through support organizations, churches, [or] cancer walks, we like to have a presence there so we can continue to get the word out.” – janaya black
