Don King: On Why President Obama Will Change the Spirit of America

Don kingDon King is responsible for turning boxing into one of the most lucrative sports in the world. After using guerilla marketing campaigns to promote the “Rumble in the Jungle” in 1974 and the “Thrilla in Manilla” in 1975, King developed a reputation for transforming professional boxing matches into must-see events. So it was barely a surprise when King was recently spotted at the event that changed the course of American history; the presidential inauguration. Moments before the inauguration, King used his natural gift of gab to discuss how Barack Obama has become a champion to the world.

“When I promoted the Muhammad Ali fight against George Foreman, it was called from ‘Slave Ships to the Championship,” King recalls. “Now we have gone from the slave ships to the White House. America is the greatest nation in the world.”

King has always surrounded himself with a strong staff and he believes that President Obama’s support team will be the secret to his success. “Having a strong base is what it’s all about,” King says. “Obama has a great team and he will have the support that will allow him to make great decisions.”

By witnessing Jim Crow and the Civil Rights Movement firsthand, King understands the progression that the country has made with the election of President Obama. He has feeling that the election will spark change around the globe. “The spirit of America is alive,” he says. “America is pregnant with a baby called hope and freedom. When she gives birth, we will move on and be able to be the beacon of hope that America stands for around the world.” ~amir shaw
