At the height of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring ’09’s opening day, couture designer B. Michael showcased his fiercely fabulous spring collection at Arena in midtown Manhattan. Nothing short of extraordinary, his entrancing gowns embrace feminism and scale the heights of luxury. Channeling his fashion magic, the hip designer embellishes seersucker–preppy gentleman haberdashery–recreating it to become a high style staple for both men and women. On his inspiration for the collection, the designer shares, “Overall, I wanted to make sure my designs were modern and relevant, at the same time you can pull them out ten years from now and still be relevant.”Fans of the collection included legendary actress Cicely Tyson, Arthur Mitchell (Dance Theatre of Harlem), actress Tamara Tunie and her husband Gregory Generet, attorney Pamela Hayes, actress Niecy Nash, Dr. Holly Phillips, and CNN legal analyst Sunny Hostin.– yvette caslin
