The Republicans would have us believe that the only reason Sen. Barack Obama is the Democratic nominee for president is because of his celebrity status. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Barack Obama movie. I have, however, seen a Ronald Reagan movie and plenty of Arnold Schwarzenegger movies. Obama is the candidate because he is intelligent and a born leader. But because he is black and so much of a breath of fresh air, his opponents want to find any and every reason they can to take away his legitimacy as a candidate. I don’t think they can do it because I believe that this is history in the making and it’s Obama’s destiny to be the president of this country.
The Republicans want us to believe that Obama doesn’t have experience. Well Obama has plenty of experience working for the betterment of the lives of citizens, which I would think is great experience for this job. If they are talking about experience being president, neither McCain nor anyone else has that experience until they actually become president — “duh.” For all of the people that think Obama supporters are playing some type of race card; first let me say that the Obama campaign never used race as an argument or crutch; secondly, the first ones to really talk about race in this election were whites who felt that there was bias in favor of Obama. Polls suggest that 5 percent of Americans say they would not vote for a black guy. That’s a lot of people, so imagine how many felt that way yet didn’t say so. True enough, Obama may have a lot stacked against him because of his ethnicity and his name. But it would seem that he is such a great candidate that he can transcend almost any obstacle in his rise to the White House — much in the same way that great black figures like Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King Jr., Joe Lewis, Nat King Cole, Tiger Woods and a score of others have overcame incredible social and economic obstacles to realize greatness. When men are that great you are forced to look into their souls, and things like skin color and financial background become irrelevant in the mind of even the most ignorant and intolerant of citizens. I don’t know if it’s coincidence or necessity, but these great people always seem to come about when we need them the most, and I assure you we desperately need a man like Barack Obama in the White House — and we need him right now. Not because he’s black, but because he’s right.
TRUTH BE TOLD: All of the things that I have seen and learned in my life have made me a pretty good judge of patterns, people and things, and I believe that Barack Obama may just set the standard that all other politicians after him are held to.
