The 2008 Gospel Choice Awards lit up Philips Arena Monday night, as some of the biggest names in gospel music and ministry gathered to celebrate their accomplishments.

Popular radio host Larry Tinsley received the Lifetime Achievement Award and Evangelist Dorothy Norwood received the Thomas A. Dorsey Award. Among the winners were also hip-hop/spoken word duo Platinum Souls for Best in Holy Hip Hop.

It was an honor to even be nominated with the big dogs,” Ricardo Flo, one-half of the duo, laughed.

Grammy Award-winning singer, Regina Belle also was on hand with husband Pastor John Battle and their children. Belle was nominated Best Female Artist as well as for Song of the Year. She expressed her pleasure at being involved in the event.

“It means a lot to be nominated for my gospel music because someone saw that my music was ministering to somebody and touching somebody’s life,” she said. “At the end of the day, nomination or not, that’s what it’s about.”
