The Lucky Ones

Here’s a charming road movie about three U.S. soldiers whom fate brings together under the guise of a minor disaster. Sargent T.K. Poole (Michael Pena) has been given a one-month leave after suffering an injury in Iraq. A blackout causes all of the flights departing New York to be cancelled, so Poole catches a ride with Sargent Fred Cheaver (Tim Robbins) along with Private Colee Dunn (Rachel McAdams). A menagerie of conflicts and discoveries brings the trio closer together than they ever expected to get. This film isn’t hugely eventful, but all three of the main characters are nuanced and fascinating.
