After spending the last five years on the periphery of the music industry, Eminem can’t seem to shake the spotlight. While attending the recent MTV Movie Awards, Slim Shady’s hotel room was burglarized and bandits made away with the rapper’s $60,000 diamond chain. It was later discovered that Eminem’s personal laptop was also stolen from the room.
According to reports, the incident took place around the time Eminem found himself at the butt-end of comedian Sacha Baron Cohen’s joke. The star of Borat and “Da Ali G Show” flew into the audience on a wire that “malfunctioned,” causing his behind to land squarely in Eminem’s face. Looking visibly upset by the violation, the artist and his entourage quickly vacated the premises. An MTV writer has confirmed that the entire incident was staged and Eminem was in on the joke.
Whether he likes it or not, Eminem is clearly under hip-hop’s microscope thanks to his latest album, Relapse, owning the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top 200 for the past two weeks. The album has moved some 833,000 units and Em has been everywhere from Jimmy Kimmel to performing with Jay-Z to promote the record.
