We apologize to the mother of Derrion Albert for so many of our citizens mistaking President Obama for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. These confused misfits who categorically reject out of hand health care reform, deny the downtrodden, and ignore the underclass, must have been engaged elsewhere when a young man was brutally beaten to death.
Derrion’s death is more than just tragic because of the loss of life and promise, but it shines a harsh light on the conflict of interest on the social and political home fronts. Not having blue blood friends in high places means no public relations representative organized a campaign to create an endowment fund for under privileged students, no college memorialized Derrion’s passing with a scholarship award in his name, and no Washington lobbyist picked up the charge — or even the phone — to make that call to the White House.
Instead he pursued weightier issues on the national agenda, but the crucifixion of young black males didn’t make the list. The man who talked about a new generation has not countered K Street where sophisticated pundits and lobbyists dine in pricey restaurants and discuss maximizing profits. Restaurants that Derrion’s mother will not be invited to. No corporation or special interest group is picking up the check for her.
I’m sure she had hopes for Derrion and believed it possible that he could maybe even be an Obama Jesus. I’m sure she was thankful for the possibility that her senator-turned-president would remember the plight of young people in Chicago and cities like it.
But the bloodshed continues and there’s still no word from the White House.
Is the elite sector of the African American community so self-absorbed that they are perpetuating a Third World mentality supporting selfish interests over self-preservation. The level of access given to the White House seems to be limited to those who can advance the economic issues for Wall Street, special interests groups and the industrial military complex.
Obama Jesus must have forgotten that his priority should be “the least of these.” The shining image of this sensitive and saintly president is beginning to fade. While the colors red, white and blue represent this nation; the colors red, black and green represent a consciousness for people who gave Obama Jesus his wings.
We pray that the call comes tomorrow — because as of press time, it hadn’t. Don’t make humanity take a backseat to crisis management and political spin.
This mother’s child has been sacrificed and Obama Jesus cannot resurrect him.
Peace.
