Evander Holyfield and the ‘Old Lady in the Shoe’ Find Common Ground

alt

“There was and old lady who lived in a shoe. She had so many children she didn’t know what to do.”

Evander Holyfield has set himself up to do a remake of that nursery rhyme. The champion boxer has spit out (at least, according to his Wikipedia page) 11 children, who are now causing him much financial strife.

The “Real Deal” Holyfield has asked courts to lower his child support payments, because times are not as easy as they were when he was in the ring consistently.

According to documents filed last month in Cobb County Superior Court in Georgia, Holyfield wants his agreement with ex-wife Janice Itson from 2000 modified because his “income has decreased” and he now has other children “for whom he is also responsible to support.” No word on whether or not the request was granted.

The heavyweight was in the news not long ago fighting the battle of impending foreclosure on his $10 million, 54,000-square-foot Atlanta estate, along with suits filed for non-payment of child support and landscaping debts.

Holyfield, a widely publicized born-again Christian, must have taken to heart the command “be fruitful and multiply,” but he may have missed a few key Scriptures that speak to the rules and stipulations.  Financial contribution aside, can he really make a significant impact in the lives of 11 — or more — children? Focus on quality, “Real Deal,” not quantity. –gerald radford
