Snoop Dogg Discusses Annual Snoop Bowl and Mentoring Young Men

Snoop Dogg understands how easily young boys can be led down the wrong path. As a teenager, Snoop joined a gang and was arrested several times before embarking on a career in music So to provide a positive outlet for young men who could lose focus, Snoop created the Snoop Football League and the annual Snoop Bowl. In its eighth season, the Snoop Bowl has raised over $100,000 for charity and has given young men an opportunity to develop into leaders. Snoop reveals how he prepares the youth for life through football. –amir shaw

“I like to let the boys look at my life and see the good and bad things that I have done. Then when they are more personal with me, I can give them advice on the right things to do. I become more of a friend to them. Any great coach must be a friend to their athletes.


“When they become adults, I will still be a part of their lives. When I was young, certain people on the football field did a lot for me. That’s why I like to go back and give back … [no] musician or rapper helped me. Football coaches and people from the community were the ones who tried to steer me in the right direction. My job is to mentor and be there for them when they need me,” Snoop says.
