Humphrey’s career in the entertainment industry began when she was approached by a friend to appear in a fashion show. “I was an engineer by training and trade, then I got an opportunity to be in a fashion show, and one thing led to another. It kind of opened up a whole new career for me and I realized I liked it better than engineering, so I decided to pursue the television side,” she says.
Humphrey is an on-air traffic reporter for a CBS affiliate Philadelphia. Her day job helped land the aspiring actress a role in the feature film, Law Abiding Citizen, starring Jamie Foxx. In the film she played a newscaster. Her newest venture is as the face of Urbanphilly.com a website that publicizes social events in the Philadelphia area.
“I think that engineering trains you to solve problems as logically and efficiently as possible, so you can apply that field to any industry. It helped me prepare for what I would need in the entertainment industry,” says Humphrey.
“I am working on a few projects for this year, one of them being a pilot for a new TV show. I have a few partners that have some contacts in the industry and we’re definitely trying to get it placed on a national network. I’m still auditioning for films and any work I can find to raise my profile,” she says.
Humphrey is also very active in the community and twice a month she arranges speaking engagements to talk to kids. “It’s awesome to know that you have the ability to make a difference in the community. I never expect anything I do to make an impact on people, I just do what I like and do what makes me happy,” she says. –christian johnson
