During the last week of Black History Month, another disturbing display of racism occurred on a college campus. Students and faculty members at the University of Missouri recently found hundreds of cotton balls scattered outside of the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center.
Black and white students spoke out against the incident on Monday during a town hall meeting that was held on campus. For two hours, students and the school’s administrators discussed how to prevent racial strife on campus by upholding the values of diversity.
Two individuals dressed in all-black were seen running from the scene after midnight, but no arrests have been made. The university’s police are treating the incident as a hate crime. –amir shaw
