DMX has been sentenced to six months in jail for five counts of violating his probation; he admitted to continued use of cocaine. He has a night in shining armor, though: Dr. Drew of VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab” has stepped in to offer his assistance.
The TV doctor, Drew Pinsky, sent word by a rep from the Pasadena Recovery Center that he would like to be responsible for X’s recovery through his reality show-based program. The letter recommended X be allowed to go that route in lieu of serving his term.
According to reports, the judge seemed on board with the idea, but should the judicial system trivialize enforcing the law by connecting with promotional opportunities of that nature? Dr. Drew is a legitimate physician, but his sincerity in intervening in X’s life is questionable. Granted, there are tons of reality shows that deal with real life issues, but they, too, seem like exploitation more than anything else. Just a ratings bolstering move or sincerity? –gerald radford
