Media reports are surfacing that R&B singer Toni Braxton is in financial trouble, again. Times are certainly tough and celebs are not exempt from the country’s recession woes, but this is Braxton’s third or fourth time around the block. Can someone say, “competent accountants?”
Her struggles of the past include being wanted by the state of California for allegedly owing nearly $80,000 in back taxes, and 10 years prior having owed $3.9 million to creditors and being forced to sell everything, including her Grammys, to pay off the debts.
Now, Toni and her recently dismissed husband, Keirston Lewis, face a lien from the IRS, and her bankers are claiming she is behind in mortgage and loan payments.
U.S. tax officials have filed a lien against them for a reported $396,000 for the 2007 and 2008 tax years and news sources are reporting that the pair also owe $900,000 in loan payments and that bank officials are involving the courts in an attempt to collect the debt. Just six months ago, she was on the verge of foreclosure on her California home.
A failed marriage, health issues, a child with autism and now this? I’m quite worried about Toni’s ability to withstand it all. She has certainly survived many setbacks and is about to release a new album, but sheesh … can a sister get a break?
Maybe someone should form a support group of some sort for the growing number of celebs that are duking it out with Uncle Sam and bankers. –gerald radford
