British Racists Demand No Black Waiters, U.S. Hotel Chain Sued

alt

A British family has ruffled the feathers of a black waiter at a Florida hotel. The Naples Ritz-Carlton, known for its impeccable hospitality, met the demands of a racist British family who refused, in advance, to be served by anyone black or with an accent other than their own.  A Haitian-born waiter that was denied the opportunity to serve them (I wouldn’t even want to serve them, but …) is now suing the hotel chain for $75,000 over the bigoted request.

The waiter says his bosses, referencing a note in the hotel’s computer system that read “this couple is very, very prejudiced,” prohibited him from serving the family and he claims he was “humiliated and embarrassed” by the incident, the lawsuit states.

“There’s just no room for it in America,” his lawyer told the News-Press. The director of the hospitality program at the nearby Florida Gulf Coast University said that while such requests are not uncommon, it’s one situation where the customer is definitely not always right.

Since there was advanced notice of the “wait-staff hate,” is it the family’s prerogative to choose whom they want to serve them and does the extreme hospitality driven hotel chain have the right or duty to comply? Share your thoughts by leaving a comment. –gerald radford
