Look, we all plan on “losing a few pounds” for the summer. Some of us make it. Some of us don’t. Either way, wear things that are your CURRENT size. Clothes that actually fit your body flatter it more than clothes that are snug on you. In fact, clothes that are too small make you look bigger. Don’t squeeze into too tight jeans or put on a two-piece you having no business wearing. It’s just not comfortable. Not for you or anybody else. When you look good, you feel good. So dress accordingly: for comfort … and style.
Embrace White
Sure, black is slimming and all, but it’s pure torture to wear it in the summer sun. If you do white right, it can be really flattering. Wear a flowy tunic with some shorts or as a dress when you’re on the beach. A white blazer is a great cover up for strapless dresses for breezy summer nights. If you’re proud of your curves, rock some white skinny legs with some great shoes for a night on the town. Looking for some modest swimwear? A white halter one piece with ruching is flattering on all shapes. Find what works for you and embrace the clean, polished look of white.
Work it Out
No one can deny that when your body is in shape, you can look good in just about anything. Working out can be tedious and mundane for some people. If that’s the case, fake yourself out. Park in a far away parking space to walk a little more when you go to the grocery store. Take advantage of your pool time and actually swim — it’s great cardio. Walk somewhere instead of driving if it’s less than five miles away, especially if you’re on vacation. It’s a great way to save gas and burn calories. If all else fails, suck it up, get a trainer and hit the gym. Sure, it’s hard but anything worth having doesn’t come easily. Work on your best feature and show it off!
Get Height
When you’re wearing a fantastic pair of heels, it’s hard not to feel like the baddest chick in the room. Adding height to your body will create the illusion of looking longer and leaner. (Especially a pair of nude heels.) Whether it’s great pair of Christian Louboutin pumps, some gladiator heels or colorful wedges, make sure you find a pair of shoes that make you feel like a million bucks this summer. Shoes can make or break an outfit, so be sure to find a pair that actually adds oomph to your ensemble. Depending on your pick they can be an asset or a liability. Choose wisely and walk the walk … in some really fabulous shoes. –mattie james
