The Black McDonald’s Operators Association Awards $250,000 in Scholarships to Houston High School Students

HOUSTON The Black McDonald’s Operators Association of Greater Houston presented its 19th Annual Scholarship Ceremony Friday, May 14, 2010, at Kingdom Builders’ Center. BMOA presented $250,000 in Future Achievers Scholarships to 25 deserving African American high school students for their exceptional academic achievements and community service.  


Mary Redmond, McDonald’s owner-operator and vice president of BMOA, welcomed attendees and introduced owner-operator members of BMOA: Hazel Smith, secretary; Steve Bentham, treasurer; Ernest Redmond, (Mary’s husband); Denise Bentham; Perry Jordan; Dave Moss; Tarus Morgan; Sam Munroe; Scott Munroe; Carroll Oliver; John Tillman; Angela Majors; and Gloria and Kurt Holloway. 
 
“These students are our future leaders,” said owner-operator Stephanie Oliver-Green, president of BMOA, in recognizing the accomplishments of the scholars.

was keynote speaker. 


“The event is a partnership between Ronald McDonald House of Charities and the owner-operators of McDonald’s,” said Judy Schmid, vice president of Ronald McDonald House of Charities Houston and Galveston Inc. Schmid encouraged attendees to continue eating McDonald’s french fries because the scholarships are funded by french fry sales. 

Recipients of the RMHC/African American Future Achievers Scholarships individually expressed their gratitude and discussed future goals. 
 
Owner-operator John Tillman concluded the ceremony with a benediction.
