McDonald’s Owner Doris Boulrece Encourages You to Dream Big

alt

There’s no doubt that women are endowed with the attributes required to own a business. McDonald’s owner-operator Doris Boulrece’s daughter grasped that concept when she was studying for her degree in economics. “My daughter was in business school at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Ill., and her accounting professor shared how her friend found success as a McDonald’s owner. My daughter was so excited to hear this story that she called me and asked me what my retirement plans were,” offers Boulrece.

Starting a new career was the last thing on Boulrece’s mind when her daughter presented her with the idea. “I told her I am not thinking about retiring. I am rolling around in my chair and having fun doing what I do,” says the former office manager.

Her daughter was persistent and like a good mother Boulrece entertained her. “We started doing research at the library and talking to McDonald’s owners,” she recalls.

Boulrece’s fire was lit. She opened her first restaurant in 2000 and has plans to open a second one later this year.

She offers these words of advice for aspiring and new business owners, “If you are going into business — get a mentor, someone who is already doing what you want to do. Learn from them by spending time and talking with them. Also, get a life a coach. Get a mentor that is a life coach or have both so they can help you develop your skills.”

Boulrece also says she finds enjoyment in helping young people find their hidden treasures and identify their destinies. She tells them, “There is something big in you and you have to tap into that greatness inside of you.”

Boulrece earned her degree at the Joseph Business School in Forest Park, Ill. In her spare time, you can find her bowling or providing meals to the less fortunate. –yvette caslin
