German beauty and HIV-positive pop star Nadja Benaissa is on trial for knowingly having unprotected sex with several partners.
The former singer of the all-girl group No Angels is being charged with grievous bodily harm. But since the reckless and callous woman transmitted a potentially fatal virus to someone else deliberately, she should instead be charged with attempted murder or assault with a deadly weapon. The reason being is that once the virus lies dormant in the body during the incubation period, it then unleashes an often unforgiveable and irreversible assault on the body’s immune mechanism.
Benaissa, who catapulted to national fame in Germany in 2000 after winning their version of “Popstars,” admits that she knew she had HIV when she engaged in sexual relations with several men. One man has tested positive while the other two did not.
As it stands, the trial is getting substantial international media attention because it is being viewed as setting the benchmark for the rights of sexual partners of those who know they are HIV infected.
Benaissa faces a prison sentence of up to 10 years in prison if convicted. –terry shropshire
