The walls were covered in gold and pictures of Q-tip, Questlove, and Black Thought (bandleader of The Roots), hung from the ceiling. Cute models served gourmet appetizers as hundreds of party people bobbed their heads to the beat. Playhouse, the half nightclub, half concert hall located on the Hollywood strip in Los Angeles, was converted into the ultimate hideout for the Hennessy Artistry 2010 tour featuring Q-Tip as the headliner, and unexpected guest, hip-hop icon Ice Cube.
The Hennessy Artistry concert series was developed to explore the art of blending. Similar to the process used to create the delicious cognac, the tour blends different musical acts together on one stage. With recent concerts all over the country with artists like Bilal, Eve, Common, and this time Q-Tip, it made perfect sense for a liquor-based tour to throw in an Ice Cube.
With one of the most heartfelt introductions to date, Q-Tip went all out when it was Ice Cube’s turn to rip the stage.
And in true top dog fashion, Ice Cube threw it right back at him “The true original, my man Q-Tip, a true original! He’s got the perfect name ’cause he was always on his own tip,” said Cube. Ice Cube then rocked the crowd with classics bangers, like “We Be Clubbin’ ” and “Check Yo Self” sending the audience into an absolute frenzy.
With unlimited glasses of cool Hennessy concoctions floating around the room and DJ D-Nice spinning on the ones and twos, this easily went down as one of the best parties on the West Coast this year. Cheers to Hennessy.
