R&B up-and-comer Jazmine Sullivan has apparently grown tired of the rigors of the entertainment world, and decided to take a break from the music industry. In a series of Sunday night tweets (see below), Sullivan expressed an unhappiness that was prompting her to walk away from an industry where she has spent the last few years carving out a successful niche as a rising star.
Backed by a personal promise that she would quit when “it stopped being fun,” the 23-year-old J Records artist abruptly made the announcement, much to the disappointment of the over 91,000 fans that follow her on Twitter.
But that’s where the story gets strange. After about 30 minutes of her comments being retweeted, and fans expressing anger about her decision to walk away, the tweets mysteriously disappeared from her page. Since then, Sullivan has yet to tweet, which leads one to believe that she is no longer walking away from music.
What this appears to be is another case of a celebrity using Twitter as an unfiltered vehicle to express raw emotion, only to realize that this freedom of expression is both a gift and a curse. I’m sure the emotions that Sullivan felt were sincere at the time — after all, how many of us consider walking away from our jobs on a daily basis — but after a moment to let her actions sink in, cooler heads prevailed and she realized she didn’t really want to retire.
We’ll keep you posted as this story develops, but on a personal note, we hope that she decides to stay. –djr
