The purported benefits of the new product include its affordability and an emphasis on maintaining healthy hair through the use of satin oil for extra moisturization.
“The hair care system is designed to preserve healthy hair no matter the style — whether it’s relaxed or natural. It’s infused with ingredients to instill moisture, body, shine and strength and gives five times conditioning in every step. Each piece also works well by itself no matter the style,” stated Angela Guy, SoftSheen-Carson, senior VP, general manager.
The new line could not be launched without a new face. Actress and former Dark and Lovely spokesmodel Nia Long introduced the brand’s new Global Brand Ambassador, Bria Murphy. Bria, the daughter of Eddie Murphy, expressed hopes that she will inspire young black girls to acquire self-confidence through healthy beauty practices.
“I want to inspire young women. This product does help you have that self-confidence because every time you use it, you’re guaranteed to look fabulous,” she said.
Bria was looking fabulous that evening thanks to her new haircut designed by Emmy Award-winning celebrity hairstylist, Oscar James (Tyra Banks, Halle Berry, Vanessa Williams).
“Bria loves to change her hair, so I did a cut that she can wear different ways. … The Dark and Lovely relaxer doesn’t break down fine hair and it makes hair full of body and shiny. So I was able to use the product, give her a cut, flat iron it and send her on her way,” he said.
With Murphy’s major endorsement deal, she is well on her way to inspiring other young black women to maintain healthy hair and no one was prouder than her father, Eddie Murphy (who was joined by ex-wife, Nicole, and daughter, Shayne).
“It’s all a trip for me. She is still my little baby so to see her look like a grown woman looking so pretty — it’s a beautiful trip,” he said. –souleo
