Nearly 20 albums in total, an endless list of hit dance singles, reality show theme-songs and a stint in the porn industry, and rapper ”Too $hort” or Todd Anthony Shaw, has zero plans to retire any time soon.“I lost count what number album I am on, but that’s a good thing right,” Too $hort said.
Launching his career at the early age of fourteen out of East Oakland, Calif., Too $hort has worked with nearly every major artist on the rap scene including Tupac, Notorious BIG, Jay Z, Scarface and E-40.
After 30 years in the hip-hop game and a never-ending repertoire, what’s behind Too $hort’s continuing insistence on being a workaholic?
“I’m living with the fact that hip-hop is an addiction … If you get a hold of a woman who gets you hooked on her, there is nothing you can do,” says Too $hort.
The rapper recently released his new EP Respect The Pimpin and has been performing with a live band. His recent song “B—h” with E-40 has been a success and he continues to work with producer Ant Banks.
Although profitable and exciting, Too $hort says he will not likely revisit his short-lived career in the adult entertainment industry. “It’s sex, sex, sex all the time, even when you’re not working,” he complained. The man who spit the notoriously nasty narrative “Freaky Tales” admits, that participating in porn is a kinkier job than he is up for he said. “I have a sexy side to me, I like to have sex a lot, but can you kiss me first or can we do dinner,” Too $hort said.
Recently trying his hand at the social media trend, he’s interacting with his fans via Twitter and other networks, for the first time. The old school rapper has a young spirit and is just as vivaciously freaky as he was when recording “Raw, Uncut and X-Rated” in the 1980’s. “Oh wait, I think I’m at about 20 albums now,” $hort said. –callye peyrovi
