College roommates often disagree on small things. But usually, the students are able to get past their differences without a physical altercation occurring.
But on March 2, Middle Tennessee State University basketball player Tina Stewart lost her life after being stabbed in the chest by her roommate, Shanterrica Madden.
Several rumors have surfaced about how an argument between Stewart and Madden turned fatal.
Some have suggested that Stewart was upset because Madden was smoking marijuana in their room. Stewart is a student-athlete who must undergo random drug test and some have suggested that she didn’t want to be around the marijuana smoke and confronted Madden about it.
However, Madden’s attorney, Joe Brandon, suggested that his client was acting in self-defense and that the two women began to argue after Madden’s boyfriend moved into their apartment one month ago.
The entire truth will not surface until Madden goes on trial for first-degree murder. But it’s unfortunate that two promising black women have lost their lives while trying to attain an education. –a.r.
