Kanye West’s ‘Monster’ Video Banned By MTV for Portraying Violence Against Women

Kanye West's 'Monster' Video Banned By MTV for Portraying Violence Against WomenKanye West continues to push boundaries and offend groups with his creativity. For the second time in two weeks, one of West’s videos has been banned.

On Feb. 23, West’s “All of the Lights” video was banned by You Tube because Epilepsy Action, a group that works on behalf of victims of Epilepsy, claimed the video’s bright flashes of light could cause seizures.

Recent reports suggest West’s “Monster” video has been banned by MTV. Although the official video, which features Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross, was never released, an unfinished version became viral in December.

The video takes place in a Victorian-style mansion and features dozens of scantly dressed white women who appear unconscious or dead. There are also a few women who dangle from the ceiling by chains and a decapitated head is held by West. Women’s rights activist Sharon Haywood established a petition asking MTV to ban the video due to its offensive and misogynistic themes.

Although “Monster” features several morbid images that could be too much for adolescents to handle, it’s likely that West was making a deeper statement about the women in his life. The vampire-theme could symbolize the “blood sucking” performed by untrustworthy people such as his ex-girlfriend Amber Rose. Since the two ended their relationship, Rose has remained relevant be being romantically linked to NBA player Amare Stoudemire, rapper Fabolous and Wiz Khalifa.

Nevertheless, a video ban from MTV means nothing these days. The music station seems more focused on cashing in on hit reality shows such as “Jersey Shore” and “Teen Mom 2.” a.r.
