I hurried to downtown Atlanta recently to meet one of my favorite comedians in the world, Sinbad. I was a bit nervous because I usually have a hard time getting a good interview out of most comics because either they are really shy or they are very arrogant.
All of those worries were no more after I spent an hour talking, laughing and hanging out with him and his lovely family. All of them are funny and witty, and you can tell they have a lot of love in their household.
Sinbad looked great after losing weight. He said he had double knee surgery, and that’s why he had to drop the pounds. He had a fresh hair cut and was sporting black shades, a jogging suit, Jordans and a huge smile. I met his gorgeous wife, Meredith, who was a bit shy, and his daughter, Paige Bryan, who looks more like a supermodel than an R&B singer. Their son, Royce, was cool and just as funny as his dad!
The first thing I asked Sinbad was where the heck he’d been hiding. He told me that he was waiting for Hollywood to call him, but they didn’t think he was hot anymore. So, he went off to do his own thing. He was enjoying normal life and playing funk on his guitar. He said he decided to do a reality show because he missed sitcoms and wanted to show his family unit and their everyday life. In addition, he can promote whatever projects his family members are working on.
Paige grew up a tomboy and played basketball before she also had to have double knee surgery. She always knew deep down, though, that she was a singer and has a new album out called Imperfect Me that’s on iTunes and Amazon now. Recently, she performed on the “Mo’ Nique Show.” Royce, a producer, loves music and film.
At first, Sinbad’s wife refused to do the reality show. So, he planned to have a fake wife, but decided that was not “real” enough. After a bit of coaxing from her husband, she finally accepted the offer. The family was a riot, and Sinbad was the nicest guy I ever interviewed (that was a comedian). Their new reality show, “It’s Just Family,” premiers April 12th on We tv at 10 p.m., right after “Braxton Family Values.” Tune in! –tammie reed
