Cory Gunz was only 10 years-old when his father, Peter Gunz, teamed up with Lord Tariq for the 1997 hit single, “Deja Vu (Uptown Baby).”
Now 23, Cory is set to carry on his father’s legacy as an up-and-coming emcee. Although Cory has released several mixtapes since 2005, his verse on Lil Wayne‘s new hit single, “6’7,” exposed him to a wider audience and could be the song to jump-start his career.
Nick Cannon took notice of the Bronx, N.Y., native’s story and decided to produce a MTV docu-series called “Son of a Gun.” The show is set to air on April 28.
Gunz is currently signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money label and will likely release his debut album in the fall of 2011.
