Rapper Ice Cube has produced a slew of hit films over the years and now the filmmaker is in talks with movie powerhouse Disney to produce, direct and star in the car-themed drama, Chrome and Paint.
According to deadline.com, the film will focus on the subculture of custom cars of South Central Los Angeles, using tricked out Mercedes-Benzes, BMWs and low-rider cars to showcase the human temptation to place materialism above all else in the world. The film will also pull elements from the classic films Saturday Night Fever and American Grafitti, both of which highlighted urban subcultures.
Cube, who also co-wrote the film with Eva Vives, will produce the film with his Cube Vision partner, Matt Alvarez.
Despite Cube having originally written the film with R-rated material, a no-no for the company, Disney initially became interested after Cube had a general meeting with the film company, piquing the interest of Disney exec Louanne Brickhouse, a fellow car enthusiast, and production president Sean Bailey.
Cube and Vives will now pare down some of the adult themes of the film to ensure that it has a PG-13 rating.
Filming for Chrome and Paint is set to begin by the end of summer.
