Avery Sunshine Releases Self-Titled Debut Album
Avery Sunshine

Singer-songwriter-pianist Avery Sunshine has released her long-awaited, self-titled debut album. Sunshine has been performing for more than 15 years and has built a body of work that most artists can only dream of.
Sunshine got her big break as a soundtrack vocalist for the Paramount Pictures movie, The Fighting Temptations, and was then asked to be a keyboardist for Tyler Perry’s stage play, Meet the Browns. In 2007, she was sought out by vocal great, Jennifer Holiday, to be choral director for the theatrical production of Dreamgirls during the National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta.
Sunshine also performed at four private events during the the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colo., in 2008 and the 2009 inauguration of President Barack Obama. Rolling out has all the details on this amazing performer and self-proclaimed musical therapist. –alex green

How do you describe your musical style?
My style is a fusion of R&B, church, soul and jazz. My style reflects most of the music that I feel connected with.

With whom have you worked?

I’ve worked with David Foster, Anthony Hamilton, my musical partner, Dana Johnson, who co-wrote “Get It Together” with India Arie, Daniel Moore and one of the greatest conductors ever, Robert Shaw.

What do you feel you bring to the table that no other artist is bringing right now?
I bring me. However trite this may sound or read, for that matter, nobody can do me better than me. I hope that I encourage others to “do them.” Do you. That is one of greatest gifts that we can give to the world.

Who are your favorite artists?
Rachelle Ferrell, Ledisi, Stokley (Mint Condition), B. Reith, Charlie Wilson, Michael McDonald, Marvin Winans, Melody Gardot [and] R. Kelly.

You have been traveling a lot lately. Any upcoming tours in the works?
Yes, [I will be] traveling all over the U.S. and embarking on a one-month stint in Europe. While there, I will debut in Paris and Scotland. I move on to London, where I will be sharing the stage as an opener for B.B. King. I’m excited!
