New Restaurant Called 'Fat Ho Burgers' Opens in Texas; Owner Under Fire

It seems that there is a new restaurant opening somewhere each week in America. This is especially true in urban areas where there are wing and hamburger joints on every corner. We are all aware of the mainstream chains such as “Fat Burger” and “Ray’s Hell Burger,” which is frequented by President Obama. Now, there is a new kid on the block, and the name of her restaurant has got people talking.

In Waco, Texas, 23-year-old business woman Lakita Evans just opened a new hamburger restaurant — Fat Ho Burgers.

Located in South Waco, the restaurant is receiving nationwide attention as well as criticism about her choice of a name for the business. In addition, it is also located down the street from Gospel Cafe, a volunteer-run religious cafe and bookstore.

Fat Ho menu items include the “Supa Fly Ho with Cheese,” “Fat Chicken Ho” or the “Sloppy Ho Brisket.” And one would be remiss if they did not include a kid’s menu, which centers on the “Tiny Ho Meals.”

In a news interview with KWTX TV, Evans told a reporter she got the idea while watching the movie Phat Girlz in which “… they had like a fat a– burger and skinny a—fries.”

Unfortunately, many do not find any humor in her creative prowess. Her critics have started a Facebook group to get Evans to change the name of her business. However, Evans, who worked her way through college just to open her restaurant, is resisting.

“It’s not calling people a ho. It’s just like they say, ‘Oooh, that ho is big’ or ‘That ho is tight!’ ” she said.”Look what’s going on in Japan. It’s like clear this world is not gonna get any better. Why cry and be depressed? The economy is bad. Somebody gotta keep a sense of humor around here.” –torrance stephens, ph.d
