Advocates for gun rights often repeat the slogan, “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” But if guns weren’t so easy to obtain, there’s a good chance that a 3-year-old would not be responsible for the shooting death of his mother.
According to police in Miramar, Fla., the 3-year-old was playing with a loaded gun when he accidentally pulled the trigger and shot his 33-year-old mother, Julia Bennett, in the back. The child is apparently unaware of the crime that police are saying that he committed.
However, police may want to further investigate a man who was also in the home during the murder. He called the police and told them what the 3-year-old had done. If the gun belongs to the man, he could be charged with involuntary manslaughter due to negligence.
