Ja Rule Expresses Regret Over Upcoming Prison Stint

After pleading guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon stemming from a 2007 gun bust in New York, Ja Rule is set to turn himself in this June to begin serving out his two-year prison bid. As his prison stint looms, Ja Rule sat down with MTV News and explained that he’s regretful about his choices and having to leave his family behind.

“I’m disappointed. I’m mad at myself,” said Ja, adding that he’s worried about his children, Jeffery, Jordan and Brittany. “My daughter, she’s 15 right now. These are her last couple of years. She’s about to graduate from high school, and she’s going to college. She needs her father. My boys really need me right now too, as well as my wife. They need Daddy, and Daddy f—-d up.”

Although he fears his family will suffer from his incarceration, Ja hopes that his younger fans will learn from his mistakes and avoid the perils of gun violence.

“This is something that’s bad, but there’s gotta be some good that comes out of it,” he said. “Even if there are other kids that look at me and say, ‘Let me put my burner down.’ Even if it’s that, then there is something learned from my mistakes.”

Although the multiplatinum rapper is focused on taking care of his family before he goes behind bars, Ja is also concerned with the release of his new album, Pain Is love 2, which goes on sale June 7, the day before he begins his prison bid.

Once in prison, Ja hopes that, with good behavior, he can be a free man again in as little as 16 months.
