Snoop Dogg Says Twitter Key to an Artist’s Success

In years past, recording artists relied heavily on the hottest producers and songwriters as well as big budget promotion to find success in the industry, but now in the digital era, success has become more difficult to attain. However, as veteran rapper Snoop Dogg explains, success is no longer dependent on major label support, but instead on the social media site Twitter.

“I feel it’s the No. 1 key in music right now,” said Snoop in a recent interview with mediabistro.com. “Having that relationship with fans where it’s not based on your record label, it’s based on you. When you are tweeting, it’s not about what label you’re on, it’s about you dealing with your fans directly.

As Snoop further explains, artists have to build a strong level of trust with their fans in order to garner their loyalty and support.

“So whether you have a successful album or a label that supports you or backs you, there is a relationship with the people who make you who you are,” says Snoop. “That’s way more important nowadays to me because that’s what the industry is broken down into — trust.”

“If I trust you and have a relationship with you, and you are telling me you are putting a record out and it’s going to be good, I’m going to buy it because I trust you,” he added.
